Who Needs It: Small food businesses with an annual turnover up to ₹12 lakhs.
Examples: Petty retailers, small cafes, food hawkers, street vendors, temporary stall holders, and small-scale or cottage industries.
Criteria:
Food production (other than milk and meat): Up to 100 kg/liters per day
Milk handling: Up to 500 liters per day
Slaughtering: Up to 2 large animals, 10 small animals, or 50 poultry birds per day
Who Needs It: Medium-sized food businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores.
Examples: Medium-scale manufacturers, storage units, transporters, marketers, traders, hotels (up to four-star), restaurants, and catering businesses.
Criteria:
Food production: 1 to 2 metric tons per day
Milk handling: 501 to 50,000 liters per day
Slaughtering: 3-50 large animals, 11-150 small animals, or 51-1,000 poultry birds per day
Who Needs It: Large food businesses with an annual turnover above ₹20 crores, and those involved in interstate or international operations.
Examples: Large manufacturers, importers, exporters, operators of central government agencies, five-star hotels, and businesses operating in multiple states.
Criteria:
Food production: More than 2 metric tons per day
Milk handling: More than 50,000 liters per day
Slaughtering: More than 50 large animals, 150 small animals, or 1,000 poultry birds per day
Also mandatory for food businesses like importers, exporters, and those supplying to government agencies regardless of turnover

FSSAI registration is mandatory for any individual or entity involved in the food business in India, regardless of scale or type of activity. This includes:
Petty food business operators (FBOs) such as small manufacturers, retailers, hawkers, itinerant vendors, temporary stall owners, and home-based food businesses with an annual turnover not exceeding ₹12 lakhs.
Food businesses involved in manufacturing, processing, storing, packaging, transporting, distributing, or selling food products, including retail shops, snack shops, bakeries, and confectioneries.
Dairy units, milk vendors, slaughterhouses, fish and meat processing units, vegetable oil processing units, and cold/refrigerated storage facilities.
Food transporters, wholesalers, distributors, suppliers, marketers, and importers/exporters of food items.
Hotels, restaurants, bars, canteens, cafeterias, food vending agencies, caterers, dhabas, and food stalls at fairs or religious/social gatherings.
E-commerce food suppliers, cloud kitchens, and food businesses operating through online platforms.
Businesses with an annual turnover up to ₹12 lakhs require basic FSSAI registration.
Medium and large food businesses must obtain an FSSAI State or Central License, depending on turnover and operational scale.
Duly filled Form A (Application for Registration/Renewal).

Government-issued photo ID proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, etc.).
Proof of business address (utility bill, rent agreement, property tax receipt, or NOC from the owner).
